The Ottoman Sultanate was a type of government, like a monarchy, that ruled over the Ottoman Empire for many generations. The Ottoman Empire was located in the Middle East and was made up of many different countries. In 1923, the Ottoman Sultanate was abolished, which means it was taken away and was no longer in charge. This allowed people to have more freedom in the Ottoman Empire and to choose their own leaders. Instead of having a Sultan, who was like an all-powerful king, they had a President and Prime Minister who were in charge of the different countries in the Ottoman Empire. This gave people more say in how the Empire was run and helped to create a better government.
