Absorption (chemistry)

Absorption is when something takes in or soaks up something else. In chemistry, absorption is when a substance takes in or “absorbs” something else. For example, when you put a sponge in water, the sponge absorbs some of the water. In the same way, a substance like a liquid or a gas can absorb something like a light or a sound. In chemistry, scientists study how different substances absorb different things in order to understand different chemical reactions.
