Accent (poetry)

An accent in poetry is a special way you say certain words so they sound more important or emphasized. Kind of like when you talk louder or slower when you want to make a really important point.

In poetry, accents are often used to make a poem sound more musical or to create a certain rhythm or beat. It's like a pattern of sounds that repeats over and over again. It's kind of like clapping your hands to a song - you clap on certain beats and not on others.

Accents can be marked in a poem by putting a little symbol above a certain syllable in a word. This symbol is called an accent mark. When you read the poem out loud, you would say the syllable with the accent mark a little bit louder and longer than the other syllables.

Different languages have different rules for where you put accents. Some languages, like Spanish, always put the accent on the second to last syllable of a word. Other languages, like French, have more complex rules for where to put accents.

Overall, accents in poetry are just a special way of saying words so they sound more interesting and fun to listen to.
