ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Acorn

An acorn is a seed that comes from an oak tree. They are like little hats for trees. You can find acorns in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. Acorns are usually brown and a little bit round. The inside of an acorn is a special part that can turn into a big oak tree if it is planted in the ground and given sunlight and water.

When an oak tree makes acorns, it is like the tree is trying to have babies. The acorn is a way for the tree to spread its seeds and make more trees. It's kind of like when a mommy bird lays eggs to have baby birds. The acorns are the tree's babies, and they have a special job to do.

Some animals really like to eat acorns. Squirrels are really good at finding and collecting acorns. They use their bushy tails to store them for later. Squirrels eat acorns as a snack, kind of like how we eat a piece of fruit. Other animals like deer and birds also enjoy eating acorns.

Sometimes people use acorns for different things too. A long time ago, people would grind up acorns into a powder and use it to make bread. They would mix the powder with water and cook it over a fire. People also used to make crafts from acorns by painting them or using them as decorations.

So, you can think of an acorn like a baby tree's hat. It helps the tree have more babies by spreading its seeds. Animals like to eat acorns, and some people even use them for food or crafts.
