ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adhesion

Adhesion is when two things stick to each other. Think about how stickers stick to paper or how tape sticks to a wall. This happens because there are tiny little forces that pull the surfaces together, almost like a bunch of tiny magnets. Scientists call these forces "van der Waals" forces. Sometimes, adhesion happens because one surface is wet or sticky, like when you stick your hand to a surface covered in syrup. Other times, adhesion happens because one surface is rough, making it easier for the two surfaces to lock together. Adhesion is important in many things we use, like glue, tape, and even the way our skin sticks to our bones!
