ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adlam script

Adlam is a fancy way of writing words, just like how grown-ups might use fancy writing called "cursive" when they write important letters or notes. The Adlam script is special because it's used to write words in an African language called Fula.

The letters in the Adlam script look different from the letters we might use everyday, but just like how we need to learn our ABCs to read and write, people who use Adlam also need to learn the letters and how to write them. The script has 28 different letters, each with a different sound that is used to make up the words in the Fula language.

Using the Adlam script helps people in the Fula community to communicate with each other in a way that is special to their language and culture. It's important to remember that there are many different ways to write or represent languages, and Adlam is one way that people have chosen to keep their language alive and thriving.
