ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Adolphe Quetelet

Adolphe Quetelet was a very smart man who lived a long time ago. He liked numbers and wanted to use them to learn things about people. He thought that if he collected a lot of information about a group of people, like their height and weight, he could use math to figure out things about them, like how many people are tall or how many people are heavy.

He was also interested in studying how people grew and changed over time. He noticed that some people grow taller faster than others and some people gain weight faster than others. He used math to figure out why this was happening and what it meant for people's health.

Even though he lived a long time ago, what he learned is still important today. Scientists still use his ideas to study how people grow and change, and to learn more about how to keep people healthy.
