Okay kiddo, do you remember how we talked about hibernation where some animals go to sleep for the winter to save energy? Well, have you heard of aesthetic animals? These are animals that go into a deep sleep during hot and dry seasons to avoid getting too hot and losing too much water. This is called aestivation. Scientists have a hypothesis that some ancient animals, like dinosaurs and other reptiles, might have used aestivation to survive in really hot and dry places. By going into a deep sleep, they wouldn't use as much energy or water and could wait for better conditions to come back. It's kind of like taking a nap during recess when it's too hot outside to play. Does that make sense?
