Affect measures

When we talk about "affect measures," we're talking about ways of figuring out how people feel.

Imagine you're playing a game with your friend. You might notice that your friend looks happy when they win, but sad when they lose. You are picking up on your friend's affect, or emotional state.

But what if you wanted to study how lots of people feel about something? You couldn't just watch them all playing games! That's where affect measures come in.

There are lots of different affect measures, but they all try to do the same thing: figure out how people are feeling. Some examples of affect measures include surveys that ask people to rate their emotions (like "How happy are you right now?"), facial recognition software that analyzes people's expressions, and physiological measures like heart rate or skin conductance (which can tell us if someone is feeling anxious or relaxed).

All of these measures help us understand how people are feeling, even if we can't talk to them or directly observe their emotions. This can be really useful for figuring out how people react to different situations or products, for example.
