African-American Vernacular English

African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) is a type of English that is used by some African Americans. It has different sounds and words than traditional American English. For example, some words in AAVE might have a different spelling or sound like they have a different meaning than what they actually mean. It also has some unique grammar and word order. It’s sometimes seen as its own language, but it’s really just another way of speaking English.
