ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Agent-general

An agent-general is a person who represents their government in another country. They help to build and maintain relationships between the two countries and make sure that their country's interests are being looked after.

Imagine you have a best friend who lives in another neighborhood. You really want to stay close with them and make sure they are happy, but you can't be there all the time. So, you send your older sister to be your representative. Your sister will talk to your friend about your interests, like what games you like to play or what presents you might want for your birthday. She will also make sure that your friend is happy and being treated well.

An agent-general is kind of like your big sister. They go to another country to look after their own country's interests and make sure their country is happy with the relationship. They talk to the leaders of the other country and try to make agreements that will benefit both countries. They also make sure that their own country's people who are living in the other country are being treated well and are safe.
