Air New Zealand Flight 901
Air New Zealand Flight 901 was a big airplane that flew from New Zealand to a place called Antarctica. This was a very special flight because it took people to see the amazing ice and snow and penguins that live there. Lots of people wanted to go on this flight because it was so special.
But one day in 1979, something very bad happened on this flight. The airplane hit a big mountain called Mount Erebus that was covered in snow and ice. This made the airplane crash into the mountain and everyone on board was very hurt or died.
This was a very sad thing for all of the families and friends of the people on board the airplane. People worked very hard to help the people who were hurt or died. And they also worked very hard to figure out why this happened and to make sure it never happens again.
Now people still go to Antarctica, but they are very careful to make sure that they don't crash into anything. And they remember the people who were on Air New Zealand Flight 901 and are very grateful for all the things they did to help us learn how to be safer when we fly.
