Air raid shelter

An air raid shelter is a special place where people can go to stay safe during a dangerous attack called an "air raid."

Imagine a big monster in the sky that wants to hurt people by dropping things from their tummy onto the ground. That's what an air raid is like. But when people hear the special signal that tells them an air raid might happen soon, they hurry to their shelter so they can stay safe.

Air raid shelters are designed to keep people safe in case something big and heavy falls from the sky. They might be underground, so people can go inside and be protected by thick walls and a strong roof. Some shelters are also covered with dirt or sandbags to make them extra safe.

Inside the shelter, there are benches or beds for people to sit or sleep on, and sometimes there are even toys, books or games to help them pass the time. It's important to stay quiet and calm in the shelter so everyone can hear if it's safe to come out, and not worry too much about the big monster outside, because the shelter will protect them.
