Alcohol and Native Americans

Native Americans have a complicated relationship with alcohol. Many Native Americans are not allowed to buy, sell, possess, or drink alcohol on their tribal land. They believe that alcohol is a dangerous addiction and can lead to a lot of health and social problems. They also want to protect their culture and keep their people safe. It is illegal for non-Native Americans to give alcohol to Native Americans - this is known as the “White Man’s Law”. This means that even if you are allowed to buy, sell, possess, and drink alcohol, you still cannot give it to Native Americans. This law is meant to help keep Native Americans healthy and safe.
