Ali Shariati was an Iranian thinker, sociologist, and revolutionary who lived in the 20th century. He believed that religion and the Church should be a part of the lives of everyday people. He wanted to find a way to connect the older, traditional Islamic teachings to the modern, more progressive ideas coming out of other countries like Europe. He wrote books and gave speeches in order to reach a wider audience and encourage people to think differently about the relationship between faith and society. He believed that everyone deserved to have freedom of thought and the right to express their opinion. He wanted to make sure that religion didn't become a tool of oppression, but was instead something that invigorated and empowered individuals.
