Alimony

Alimony is money that one spouse pays to the other after a divorce. It's meant to help the receiving spouse pay for their living costs, like rent or groceries. It's usually given when one spouse makes significantly more money than the other, so it's kind of like a share of the money the richer spouse has. It's often given for a certain amount of time to give the poorer spouse a chance to get back on their feet.
