ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Filial responsibility laws

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard the phrase "family comes first"? Well, filial responsibility laws are kind of like that. They are laws in some places that say grown-up kids (like if you were all grown up and taking care of me) have a legal responsibility to take care of their aging parents if they can't take care of themselves.

It means that if I, as your parent, get really sick or need help as I get older and can't take care of myself, you might have to help take care of me with your own money or time.

But don't worry, not all places have these laws and it's not always enforced. Plus, it's always important to make sure we take care of family members who need our help and love, even if there aren't any laws telling us to do it.
