ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Allogamy

Allogamy is when two different plants or animals have babies together. It's like when your mom and dad had you. Your mom and dad are different people, and they each gave you half of your traits, like your eye color and hair color.

When plants or animals mate, they exchange genetic information, just like your parents did. This exchange of genes helps to create new plants or animals with different traits. Allogamy is important because it allows for genetic diversity, which can be helpful in adapting to changes in the environment or avoiding genetic diseases.

So, just like how you are a mix of your mom and dad's traits, allogamy creates new plants or animals with a mix of traits from both parents.
