Heterosis is a biological term used to describe when an organism (like humans, plants, or animals) has better qualities than its parents. It is also sometimes referred to as "hybrid vigor." For example, if two plants are mixed together to produce a new plant, the new plant might grow bigger and stronger than either of its parent plants. This is heterosis. Another example of heterosis is when two different animal breeds are mixed together, the offspring might have qualities that are better than either of its parents, like better health or strength.
