ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alma and Lila Lévy

Alma and Lila Levy were two sisters who lived a long time ago. They were born in France in the late 1800s and were part of a really smart and rich family.

Alma was the older sister and she was really good at math and science. She loved learning about space and even wrote a book about it when she was just 26 years old! She was so smart that she became the first woman to receive a degree in mathematics from the University of Paris.

Lila, the younger sister, was also really smart, but in a different way. She loved art and music and was very creative. When she grew up, she became a great pianist and composer. She wrote a lot of beautiful music, including a really famous piece called "Gaspard de la Nuit."

Even though Alma and Lila were very different, they both loved to learn and create things. They were brave and determined, too, and didn't let anyone tell them they couldn't do what they wanted to do just because they were girls. They showed everyone that girls can be just as smart and talented as boys.
