Altmark incident

The Altmark Incident was a big event that happened a long time ago during World War II.

Imagine there were two big groups of people fighting in a war. One group was called the Germans and the other was called the British. The British were trying to stop the Germans from taking over other countries, but the Germans had a special ship called the Altmark and they were using it to hide other ships they had captured.

One day, the British found out that the Altmark was carrying prisoners from other countries that the Germans had captured. The British didn't want the prisoners to be hurt or kept hidden, so they sent their own ships to try and stop the Altmark.

The British ships chased the Altmark for a long time until they finally caught up with it. The Germans didn't want to fight, so they surrendered the prisoners and let the British take them back to their countries.

The whole incident was a big deal because it showed that the British were really good at stopping the Germans from doing bad things, even when they were trying to hide them on their boats. It also made the prisoners and their families very happy because they knew they were going to be reunited soon.
