Amateur Radio Emergency Service

Amateur radio is like having a special walkie-talkie that lets you talk to people far away without needing a phone or internet. Sometimes, when there are emergencies like hurricanes, earthquakes, or other bad things happening, regular phone lines and internet may not work. When this happens, amateur radio operators can use their special walkie-talkies to talk to each other and help emergency workers like police, firefighters, and doctors to get important information and help to people who need it.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a group of people who use their amateur radios to help in these emergency situations. They practice and train to make sure that they know how to use their radios to talk to each other and get important information to emergency workers.

Let's say there is a big hurricane and many people are trapped in their homes because of rising water. ARES members can use their radios to talk to each other and find out which areas need help the most. They can also talk directly to emergency workers on the ground and help them get to the right areas to rescue people.

Overall, ARES is a group of people who use their special walkie-talkies to help others during emergencies when regular phone lines and internet may not work. They train and practice to make sure they can help emergency workers and get important information to the people who need it.
