American Civil War
The American Civil War was a war (1861-1865) between the United States (the "Union" or the North) and the Southern states that tried to leave the United States. The Southern states wanted to form their own country and get away from the laws and rules of the North. The North wanted to keep all the states together in one country, so they fought against the South. In the end, the North won and the Southern states stayed in the United States.
