A diesel motor works by using pressure from the burning of diesel fuel to move a piston up and down inside the cylinder of the motor. The piston is connected to a crankshaft, which is like an axle with bumps on it. Every time the piston moves up or down, it pushes or pulls against the bumps on the crankshaft and makes it spin like a wheel. The spinning of the crankshaft creates the energy that makes the motor move and power other things that it is connected to.
