American Civil War prison camps

American Civil War prison camps were places where people were kept during the American Civil War (1861-1865). These prison camps held soldiers captured by the other side, and were usually very overcrowded and uncomfortable. People in the prison camps didn't have enough food and often got very sick from the bad living conditions. They were also treated very badly and many of them died while in the prison camp.
