Ammonia

Hey kiddo! Do you want to know about ammonia? It's a type of gas that we can't see, but we can smell it. Sometimes it smells like cleaning products, but other times it smells really bad like pee-eww!

Ammonia is made up of three parts: nitrogen and hydrogen atoms. These are the same elements that make up air, which we breathe in to stay alive! But when they combine in a special way, they make a new substance called ammonia.

Farmers use ammonia to help grow their crops. It's a fertilizer, which means it helps plants grow big and strong. You know how we need food to grow and be healthy? Well, plants need nutrients to grow too, and ammonia has those nutrients.

Ammonia is also used to clean things. Remember the smell of cleaning products like window cleaner or floor cleaner? Sometimes those products have ammonia in them. They can help clean up yucky messes like food spills or bathroom messes.

But we need to be very careful around ammonia. It can be harmful if we breathe too much of it, or if it comes into contact with our skin or eyes. That's why grown-ups need to use it properly and keep it locked up away from kids like us.

So that's ammonia - a smelly, invisible gas made up of nitrogen and hydrogen that has special nutrients to help plants grow and is used to clean up messes. But remember, it can also be harmful so let's leave it to the grown-ups to handle.
