Amniotic fluid

Amniotic fluid is a special liquid that surrounds and protects a baby while it is growing inside its mother's womb (the uterus). The fluid helps cushion the baby from bumps and allow its joints and muscles to move around and grow. The fluid also helps keep the baby's temperature stable and helps keep it safe from germs outside the womb. As the baby grows, so does the fluid, which is made up of water, salts, sugars, and proteins. Amniotic fluid is essential for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
