ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Anabaptist–Jewish relations

So, you know how there are different types of people in the world who believe in different things? Well, a long time ago, there were some people called Anabaptists who believed in God and Jesus, but they didn't believe in having babies baptized when they were born. They thought that people should be able to choose to be baptized when they were old enough to understand what it meant.

The Anabaptists lived in a place where there were also a lot of Jewish people. The Jewish people believed in one God, just like the Anabaptists, but they had different traditions and beliefs. At first, the Anabaptists and Jewish people were friendly with each other and even helped each other out sometimes.

But then, some people who didn't like the Anabaptists started spreading rumors that the Anabaptists were secretly Jewish and that they were trying to convert people to Judaism. This made some people angry and scared, and they started to treat the Anabaptists badly. Some Anabaptists were even killed or forced to leave their homes.

Eventually, things calmed down and the Anabaptists and Jewish people realized that they actually had a lot in common. They both believed in God and wanted to live peaceful lives. They started to work together to help each other out and become friends.

Today, some Anabaptist and Jewish groups still have good relationships with each other, and they try to learn from each other and understand each other's beliefs. It's important to remember that even though we might have different beliefs, we can still be kind to each other and try to find common ground.
