ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Analytical expression

An analytical expression is kind of like a recipe for numbers. It's a way of writing down a way to figure out the value of something using math. Just like how you might follow a recipe to make cookies, you can use an analytical expression to figure out what the answer to a math problem should be.

For example, let's say you want to find out how much money you'll have after you save some of your allowance each week. You might use an analytical expression like this:

Total Money = (Amount Saved per Week) x (Number of Weeks)

This expression tells you that if you save a certain amount of money each week, and you do that for a certain number of weeks, you can figure out how much money you'll have in total. It's just a way of using math to help you plan and figure things out.

Analytical expressions can get more complicated and use lots of different symbols and numbers, but at their core, they're just a way of writing down a set of instructions to help you solve a math problem.
