Elementary function

An elementary function is a type of math function that is made up of simpler functions added, subtracted, multiplied or divided together. A simple example of an elementary function is the function y=x+1. In this equation, x is being added to 1 to get y. All of the basic math operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication and division—are used to create these functions. Another example of an elementary function is the square root of x, which looks like this: y=√x. In this equation, the number x is being multiplied by itself and the result is being used to get y.
