Annual Average Daily Traffic (or AADT) is a measurement that is used to figure out how much traffic a road or highway usually gets over the course of a year. It is measured by counting the number of vehicles that go past a certain point each day, then adding up all the numbers from each day and dividing by the number of days in a year. That’s the “annual average” part. The “daily traffic” part is the amount of vehicles seen each day. AADT helps us understand how many vehicles use the road so that we can plan how to build it or make it safer.
