A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves in between the Sun and Earth, blocking out the Sun's light. Basically, the Moon's shadow is cast onto the Earth and creates a period of darkness. During a solar eclipse, it can get very dark, like nighttime. It's a really cool event to watch!
