Grapevines are like little plants that grow big juicy grapes. They go through different phases every year. In winter, when it's really cold, the vines are like sleeping and resting to save energy. This is called dormancy.
When spring comes and it starts to get warmer, the vines wake up and start getting ready to grow new leaves and flowers. This is called bud break. The buds start to grow and eventually turn into green leaves, which help the vine get energy from the sun.
As we move into summer, the vines start to form flowers that eventually become tiny grape clusters. These clusters keep growing and getting bigger and by fall, they start to change color from green to red or purple, depending on the type of grape. This is the time when grapes start getting really sweet and juicy!
Eventually, it's time to harvest the grapes in the fall, usually around September or October. The grapes are picked off the vine and then used to make yummy things like grape juice or wine.
After harvest, the vines go back to sleep and rest for the winter, starting the cycle all over again next year.
