Antiphrasis

Antiphrasis is when someone says the opposite of what they actually mean. For example, if you say something is “terrible” but you really mean it’s really good, that’s antiphrasis. It’s like when you make jokes or teasingly call someone an “idiot” but you’re actually being nice. Antiphrasis is like speaking in a secret code or playing a game or being silly with your words.
