Appellate procedure in the United States

Appellate procedure in the United States is the process of going to a higher court to review decisions made in lower courts. The higher court hears and reviews arguments from lawyers representing the people involved in the case. The higher court then decides if mistakes were made in the lower court's ruling and if so, how to fix them. Most of the time, the higher court will either affirm (agree with) the lower court's decision, reverse (change) the lower court's decision, or send the case back to the lower court to be fixed.
