ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Application retirement

Application retirement means that we no longer need a certain computer program or application because it is old or no longer useful for us. It is like throwing away a toy we no longer play with or a puzzle we have already completed. Just like how we don't need every toy or game we ever owned, companies and organizations don't always need every application they have used in the past.

Just like how we may grow out of certain toys or games, applications may become outdated or not work well anymore. Companies may retire applications if they are no longer needed, too expensive to maintain, or if there are better options available. Just like how we may donate our old toys to someone else who can use them, companies may archive or migrate data from old applications to new ones, to make sure they have the information they need without the old application.

Retiring an application involves a lot of careful planning and coordination, just like how we have to clean up our room and make sure we have all the pieces of our puzzle before we put it away. Companies must make sure that any important data or information is safely and securely transferred to a different application. This is like storing our toys in a safe and organized way so we can find them again later if we need them.

Overall, application retirement means getting rid of old, unnecessary computer programs just like how we get rid of old toys or games that we don't play with anymore.
