ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Appositive

An appositive is when we have a word or a group of words that describe or explain another word that comes right before it. It's like having a friend who always wants to help you explain things better. They give you more information about something so you can understand it even better!

For example, if we say "My dog, a German Shepherd, loves to play fetch," the words "a German Shepherd" are an appositive. It helps us understand which dog we are talking about. If we didn't have that information, we might not know which dog is being referred to.

Appositives can be very helpful in making our writing more clear and interesting.
