ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Approximation

Approximation is like guessing what something is without knowing for sure.

Imagine you have a jar of candies and you want to know how many candies are inside. You can't count them all because there are too many, so you need to make an approximation.

To do this, you could take a few handfuls of candies and count how many are in each handful. Then you could estimate how many handfuls it would take to fill the entire jar. Your estimate may not be exact but it can give you a pretty good idea of how many candies are in the jar.

Approximation can be used in many different situations where a more accurate measure is not possible or practical. For example, if you want to measure the length of a wall but you don't have a measuring tape, you could use your footsteps to estimate the length. Or if you want to know how much time has passed but you don't have a clock, you could guess based on how long it feels.

Overall, approximation is a way to make an educated guess or estimate about something when exact information is unavailable or difficult to obtain.
