Aquifer thermal energy storage

Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) is a way of storing energy from the sun or other renewable energy sources, such as wind or hydro power. This energy is stored underground in a type of rock called an aquifer. It works like this: first, water is taken from an aquifer and heated using heat from the sun or other energy sources. This hot water is then stored in the aquifer until it is needed to heat buildings or generate electricity. When the hot water is needed, it is pumped back out of the aquifer, giving off its stored heat energy in the process. ATES is a great way to store energy from renewable sources because it helps to reduce the amount of energy wasted. Plus, the stored energy can be used when it's really needed, such as during cold winter days.
