Archimedean point

An Archimedean point is a point in a plane, or space, where two lines are perpendicular. It is named after the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes. It is important to mathematics, engineering and science because it is the point from which measurements can be taken and compared. For example, when you draw circles around a point, such as the center of a piece of paper, the lines drawn from the center, or Archimedean point, are equal distances and create perpendicular lines, or lines that intersect at right angles.Archimedean points can be used to measure angles, distances and other things that need to be precisely measured.
