Arethusa (mythology)

Arethusa is a fancy name for a woman in ancient Greek mythology. She was a nymph, which means she was a magical creature who lived in nature. Arethusa was in charge of a special spring of water.

One day, while Arethusa was bathing in her spring, she saw a river god named Alpheus spying on her. She got scared and started running away, but Alpheus chased after her.

Arethusa ran and ran until she got tired, and she prayed to the goddess Artemis for help. Artemis turned Arethusa into a stream of water, so she could escape and keep running.

But even as a stream of water, Arethusa could still feel Alpheus pursuing her. Eventually, she reached the sea and merged with the water so she could disappear from Alpheus forever.

And that's the story of Arethusa, the nymph who turned into a stream of water to escape from a river god!
