ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Arity

Hi kiddo, do you know what "arity" means? It's kind of a fancy word that's used to talk about how many things can be passed to something else. Let me explain more.

Let's say you're playing a game of catch with your friend. When you throw the ball to your friend, you're passing one thing to them. So we say that the arity of throwing a ball is 1.

But what if you're playing a different game where you have to throw two balls instead of one? Then the arity of that game would be 2, because you're passing two things.

So, whenever we talk about the arity of something, we're really just talking about how many things it takes in. It's like counting how many hands you have or how many fingers you can hold up - we're just counting the number of things that something can do at once.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
