Hey there! Do you know what tanks look like in movies or cartoons? You might have seen a big, tough and shiny metal vehicle with a round top and heavy wheels or tracks. Well, that's an armoured fighting vehicle, also called an AFV.
AFVs are really tough vehicles designed to be military vehicles that can protect people inside them from being hurt in battles or wars. They are made of metal, steel and sometimes have extra layers of protection added on. This is to protect soldiers inside from getting hurt by enemy bullets, bombs, or missiles.
These vehicles are also really big and heavy, and sometimes they have big guns or cannons attached to them. They move on wheels, tracks, or four legs like animals. They can go on any kind of terrain, from sand, mud, and snow to mountains or forests.
AFVs are made to help soldiers do two main things: attack and defend. If soldiers need to attack an enemy, they can use the AFV to drive fast at the enemy and shoot bullets, bombs or missiles to destroy them. If they need to defend themselves, they can use the AFV as a big shield, to protect themselves with the thick walls or top of the vehicle.
So, that's basically what an armoured fighting vehicle is - a really strong and tough vehicle used in wars to protect and defend soldiers, and to attack enemies too.
