ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Arterial road

An arterial road is like the highway of the regular streets. Just like how you can travel fast on a highway, cars can also go pretty fast on arterial roads. These roads are usually wider than other streets and have more lanes for cars to use. Think of it like a bigger slide at the playground that more people can use at once.

Arterial roads usually connect different neighborhoods or areas together. This way, people can drive to where they need to go faster without having to go through a bunch of small streets. It's kind of like a shortcut for cars! However, because there are more cars using these roads, there can be more traffic and it can get a little noisy.

To stay safe on an arterial road, you should always look both ways before crossing the street and only cross at designated crosswalks or corners. And when you're in a car on an arterial road, be sure to follow the speed limit and pay attention to the other cars around you.
