Artesian aquifer

An artesian aquifer is a big pool of water that's found underground. Think of it as a giant sponge that's hidden under the ground. And just like a sponge, it can store a lot of water.

Now, you may be wondering how the water gets into the sponge in the first place. Well, it's all because of the rain. When it rains, some of the water is absorbed into the ground, and it makes its way down to the sponge.

But, there's something special about an artesian aquifer. Imagine that the sponge is trapped between two layers of rocks. One layer of rock is tight and doesn't allow water to pass through it, while the other layer of rock is more porous, which allows water to flow through it.

So, when it rains, the water seeps through the porous layer of rock and fills up the sponge. Since the tight layer of rock doesn't allow the water to escape, the pressure in the sponge starts to build up.

That's where things get really interesting. When the pressure in the sponge is really high, the water can actually shoot out of the ground like a fountain! This is called an artesian well, and it's like the sponge is spraying water all over the place.

People can pump the water out of an artesian aquifer and use it for things like drinking water or irrigation. But, since it's hidden underground, we can't always see it or know how much water is left in the sponge. That's why we need to be careful and use the water wisely so that it doesn't run out for future generations.
