Aspis

Okay kiddo, an aspis is a special kind of shield that soldiers in ancient Greece used to protect themselves during battles. It was made out of wood and covered with a layer of metal to make it strong and sturdy.

The aspis was pretty big - almost as tall as a grown-up person - and had a shape that protected the person holding it from their head down to their knees. It had a curved edge on one side, which was used to hook onto enemies and pull them closer for attacking.

The soldiers carrying the aspis had to be really strong, because it was heavy - about 7 to 15 pounds! They also had to be really skilled and work together closely because the aspis was used in formation battles. This means that a group of soldiers would stand close together and hold their shields in front of them, making a line of armor that was tough for the enemy to break through.

So, in short, an aspis is a large and strong shield that ancient Greek soldiers used to protect themselves and fight in battles.
