ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Assise

Assise is a fancy word that means a set of rules or laws written down a long time ago. Think of it like a really big book of rules that everyone has to follow, like a game's rulebook. But instead of being about a game, it's about how people should act and what they should do.

The word "assise" actually comes from an old French word that means "to sit"! So you can imagine a bunch of important people sitting down together a long time ago and writing down all these important rules for everyone to follow.

One famous example of an assise is the Magna Carta, which was a set of rules written in England over 800 years ago. It said that even the king had to follow certain rules and couldn't just do whatever he wanted.

So, assises are like big rulebooks that everyone has to follow, and they help make sure that people act fairly and respectfully towards each other.
