ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Associated Press Athlete of the Year

Every year, the Associated Press (a group of news organizations that report on important events around the world) chooses an athlete who did really, really well in their sport that year. They give this athlete a special award called the "Athlete of the Year". It's kind of like getting a gold star for being really good at something.

To win this award, the athlete has to do really well in their sport all year long, not just in one game or competition. They also have to be a good role model and inspire other people who love their sport.

When someone wins the AP Athlete of the Year award, it's a really big deal because lots of people hear about it and they get to be famous for being really good at something.
