Association of American Universities

The Association of American Universities (AAU) is a group of really smart grown-up people who work at some of the fanciest and most famous universities in the United States. They all work together to make sure that their schools are really good at teaching and researching.

The AAU was started way back in 1900 when a group of university presidents got together and decided that they wanted to create a club for really good universities to be a part of. They picked a name for their club that sounded really important, and then they invited other really good universities to join them.

Nowadays, there are 65 universities in the AAU. They're all big and famous and they teach a whole bunch of really smart people. The AAU helps these universities work together to do things like research new ideas, share information, and make sure that the government gives them enough money to do their work well.

Being part of the AAU is kind of like being part of a really cool club where you get to hang out with a bunch of other really smart people who work at really good schools.
