Assyrian lion weights

Assyrian lion weights are special objects that the people in the ancient civilization of Assyria used to measure how heavy things were. They made them out of clay, which is like the material you use when you make little sculptures out of playdough.

The Assyrian lion weights were shaped like little lions, which were animals that were important to the people in this civilization because they were strong and powerful just like the Assyrian people wanted to be. You would place the lion weight on one side of a balance scale and the apples on the other side and keep adding or removing apples until the scale was balanced. Once the scale was balanced, you knew that the apples you had weighed the same as two lion weights, so you knew the weight of the apples.

So basically, the Assyrian lion weights helped the people in ancient Assyria measure things like food or cloth so they could buy and sell them at a fair price. They used these little lion-shaped objects to make sure they were getting the right amount of whatever they were buying or selling.
